Story Behind MuirToys

Created with care, backed by experience

Our Story

MuirToys was founded by Audrey McLellan, a UK-qualified Social Worker with over 30 years’ experience working as a Carer, Social Worker and Healthcare Inspector, supporting children and adults with a wide range of needs, including those who are autistic or neurodivergent, as well as those experiencing anxiety, sensory sensitivities and sleep challenges.

It was from this experience that the idea for MuirToys began.

Throughout her career, Audrey saw first-hand how easily everyday situations can become overwhelming and how much of a difference the right kind of comfort, reassurance and sensory support can make.

Audrey wanted to create something that offered the benefits of a weighted sensory product while still feeling warm, familiar and comforting — something that could be cuddled, held close and become a much-loved companion rather than simply another piece of sensory equipment.

MuirToys offers more than the weighted animals themselves.

Each character has their own beautifully illustrated storybook, created to explore everyday emotions, challenges and experiences in a gentle and reassuring way. Together, the animal and storybook are designed to encourage connection, comfort and conversation. From the feel of the fabrics and the comforting weight of each animal to their individual personalities, stories and packaging, every part of MuirToys has been thoughtfully considered.

MuirToys is designed for children, teens and adults and can be enjoyed at home, at school or whenever a little extra comfort and grounding may be helpful. At the heart of MuirToys is a simple idea: Comfort Through Cuddles.
